George Frederick Handel was born on February 23rd, 1685. His parents were George and Dorothy Handel of Halle Saxony Germany. His father was 73 when he was born and he was an eminent barber-surgeon who served in the court of Saxony Weissenfels and Margraviate of Brandenburg. Handel was inspired by music. Unfortunately, his father was very surprised and urged him to study law instead. His father restricted his use of any musical instruments. Luckily his mother, on the other hand, was very supportive and gave Handel opportunities to learn music, and helped him stash a clavichord in the attic that he would play while his family slept. Fortunately, Handel's operas were still played and modernized by his successors. His music was studied by later famous musicians like Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. Beethoven stated this about Handel " He is the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head and kneel before his tomb." Handel's music left an immense impact on his successors. Handel left us with his last and most famous piece the Messiah, it was written for Charles Jennings. Jennings expressed in a letter to Handel that he wanted a scriptural analogy set to music by Handel. Handle composed it in only 24 days. On the day of the premier, the hall that it was performed in was full and had to send hundreds home. The Messiah was actually titled "Ode and sacred origin". By Request of Jonathan Smith Dean St Patrick's Cathedral, all of the that the proceeds from the show were donated to the local charities and two hospitals for the mentally ill. The opera portrayed biblical values. The piece was so precise that it is still played today, just with a slightly modern twist.
