The movie My Fair Lady starts with the main character, Eliza, as a poor girl selling flowers on an England street corner. She has a strident accent which is holding her back on her full potential. She then, fatefully, meets Professor Higgins who is an expert in phonetics. Coming from the view of somebody who has read the Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, I was hesitant to watch the movie as I believed that it would alter my feelings that I had about the characters if they acted differently as I imagined. However, the cast members acted precisely as explained in the book. Audrey Hepburn acted with the exact accent and attitude as she should have and her relationship with Higgins and Pickering just seemed so real! While watching the movie I honestly forgot that they were acting and I believed I was watching the whole story unfold before my eyes.
While I loved many things about this movie, I must say that if you don't necessarily enjoy musicals, you definitely wouldn't like this movie. There were so many songs in this movie that they played almost every 5 minutes which I believed interfered with the story and made it seem less realistic because I have never seen a group of people singing and dancing outside my window. I think a few of the most catchy songs would have added a bit of fun to the movie but so many made it more of a
