Berkeley was born in his family home Dysart castle. Near Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. He was the eldest son of William Berkeley and little is known about his mother. He was educated at Kilkenny College and attended Trinity college, Dublin. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1704 and completed his master’s degree in 1707. After graduating he stayed at Trinity college to tutor.

He then went to America on a salary of £100 per annum. He landed near Newport, Rhode Islands, where he bought a plantation at Middletown. The famous “whitehall”. It is said he introduced palladianism to America by borrowing a design from kent’s designs of inigo Jones for a door in his home. He lived at the plantation and waited for his college funds to arrive (so he could build his city) but they never arrived. So he moved back to London.George Berkeley had several major accomplishments. One being the ‘Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous’. In The First Dialogue, Hylas expresses his dislike for skepticism, saying that he has heard Philonous has "maintained” the most fantastic opinion, that there is no such thing as material substance in the world. Philonous argues that it is actually Hylas who is the skeptic and that he can prove it. a philosophical battle of wit begins. This was a big impact on the world because it sparked curiosity around the
