The geography of rome is characterized by the seven hills and tiber river. In war it was easier for them because of the hills and the river. There are many good reasons why the city of Rome grew where they did. The city was built along seven hills which protected it from attack. Second, the Tiber River made a fine highway for travel to the Mediterranean Sea for trade. The making of civilization is affected by geography. Rome did not spring into being as a power on the Italian peninsula. It began as a tiny village along the Tiber River. It was on a river, the Tiber River, giving these early settlers access to fresh water for drinking and bathing, as well as a waterway for trade.
