Geographical Causes
Geographically, in Australia High levels of heavy rainfall most often cause floods. Although in other parts of Australia, floods can be caused by melting snow, tropical cyclones and tropical storms. Floods are usually caused by low-pressure systems, which occur in the late winter and spring. Typically in June, July and August. A rare Geographical cause of flooding is when seawater comes up onto dry land. Giant waves created by earthquakes will consequently overflow the land with water. Another rare case of flooding is dam failure. Cold fronts can bring heavy rainfall to Australia, particularly in winter and spring and can consequently cause flooding. Droughts occur when there is continuous days of dry weather and therefore, there is not enough water for people's needs. Australia is often affected by droughts because of its geography and rainfall change. High pressure systems over the land of Australia often initiates droughts. Social Impacts
One of the greatest social impacts that droughts cause is the loss of income. Particularly communities located in rural town as well as farmers. These people are usually forced to move on and look for jobs elsewhere,therefore this causes heartbreak associated with breakup of family members. Droughts also impact an individual’s health. For example many people become stressed out, anxiety levels rise, and both their physical and mental health are greatly impacted. Droughts cause low food production particularly in poor communities, which leads to a lack of nutrition, which can cause illnesses, and in some cases death.
