The first and most often type of person you see is the Geo Filter. The people usually consist of a group of teenage girls that simply go to the game for the Snapchat filters, or to make their friends jealous. You can find them taking selfies and group pictures the whole game. One of them will probably end up asking you to take a picture for them. If you watch them, you’ll notice that they don’t watch the game at all but are constantly on their phone, till something good happen and they will be cheering the loudest.
Another common person you find is the Groaner. These people fight every call that is made in the game, well unless its in their team’s favor. When a player messes up you can hear them complaining, making noises, and jumping out

The father and son are usually the happiest people at the game. You can find them sitting excitedly in their seats with a glove on their hand. This tradition also includes a drink and the classic ballpark hotdog. My favorite part of this group is being able to watch the father pass down his love of the sport down to his son, as he’s teaching his son the rules and plays during the game.
Next, another common one is the people that wear irrelevant sports gear. These people maybe have been dragged to the game by either their spouse, family, or friend. They will show up to a game wearing gear supporting neither team but for a completely different team or even sport. You can often find them in hockey, basketball, or football jerseys. We often wonder if these people are lost and can tell by watching them they may be thinking the same thing too. Why wear a jersey to a game for a team that’s not even playing?
Now the worst type of fan, the winning team fan. There’s never a doubt that you wont find one of these people. They’ll show up to the game bragging about how great their team is and how they will beat yours, but once the middle of the game comes along you’ll hear them in the back cheering for your team. Some of the cheering bandwagons will even go as far as wearing the opponent’s shirt under their

In the essay “Reading the Puffy Taco,” Phil West explains the history and tradition behind the mascot of the San Antonio Texas’s minor league baseball team, the Missions. In the year of 2000, the Missions debuted their new mascot, Ballapeno. Like all team mascots, Ballapeno’s job is to engage the crowd with fun, madcap antics, such as shooting off team t-shirts into the crowd from an air cannon, wanders through the crowd monkeying around with the fan’s along with their children. The tradition however, comes at the end of the sixth inning, another more baffling mascot emerges, and walks out toward second base. The crowd of approximately 4,000 fans goes wild, as this mascot makes its way to second base to meet up with a child picked from the crowd.…

After reading an article by Sid Kirchheimer called “Are Sports Fans Happier?” Instantly answering the question before even reading… how in the world could they be?! Me being a person who cannot sit still and watch a sport simply because sitting still and watching others be active is not something I can do. If you are not helping the team win how is it that you, as an individual sitting on your couch, feel so much like you have just won? Being completely understandable a team you are watching has a family member on it and feeling excitement for the player on the team for getting their victory but, feeling “bona fide joy” as Kirchheimer says in the article that this is real joy the fans feel when the team they are watching wins.…

During the game I saw some inappropriate behavior executed by the spectators on the UC Davis side. I noticed this inappropriate behavior during the game when the opposing team was awarded a free throw. The spectators from the Davis side, which also included Band-Uh, would start making noises, such a making an "ahhhhhh" sound whenever the player was getting ready to shoot the ball into the hoop. Although I know that the intention was to distract the player from concentrating, I thought it was inappropriate considering that the spectators from the other team did not do this when the Davis team was awarded a free throw. In addition, I feel that carrying out these types of behavior as a spectator is interfering in the performance of the athletes.…
