Genuinely Enjoy Responsibilities

Improved Essays
A third unanswered question from the article would be what do leaders have to do instead of what they have to be? In point fifteen of the article, Genuinely Enjoy Responsibilities, it says “Successful leaders love being leaders- not for the sake of power but for the meaningful purposeful impact they can create” (Llopis 4). This relates to chapter three of Effective Management by showing how successful managers perform ethical behaviors and do not let authority and power tempt them to become unethical (Williams). By accepting the principles of right and wrong, these leaders not only have to be ethical but also have to make sure all that they do is ethical as well.

Leaders have to make ethical decisions based on the resources that they have available. If the leader is still uncomfortable with the decision they have made, the leader should ask their colleagues and use their collective knowledge and experience to make a more considered decision. (Swinton, 2007, p. 1) There are times when a leader must listen to their instincts to come up with a decision. Once the decision has been made the leader must stand behind that decision even if it isn’t the right one and accept responsibility for it being inadequate. When making a decision a leader must take those choices seriously.…

“Key Qualities of Leadership” Individuals involved within leadership roles can “make or break” a company. Without key qualities of leadership, an individual cannot fully provide their customers or its employees with the experiences they deserve. Without proper skills and reinforcement, leaders cannot foster a positive workforce or support their employees. Without certain key factors a leader or manager becomes just another employee, and not the leader they are required to be. Having leaders with the skills such as honesty, accountability, the ability to inspire and to delegate, and basic communication skills are all necessary parts to becoming proven and respectable leaders within a business.…

However followers and leaders should share a mutualistic relationship where all members work together to play their individual part. I learned that there are many different types of followers and the best followers seem to be emerging leaders. While these followers may have learned these abilities by their self the leader should use their transformational leadership skills to foster the follower and enhance abilities to possibly one day take the leaders spot. This way not only can he or she play the role of a follower especially well they can also step up and be the leader if need be.
