Decent Essays
Hey girls,
I hope everyone had a great spring break!
Here is an update of this week’s service opportunities:
This Tuesday, March 22 after the general meeting, we will be making posters expressing what we think genuine beauty is. These posters will be handed over to GenAustin to be posted at different elementary schools.
In addition to making posters, we will be also making Easter candy bags to be given to the kids at Casa Marianella, which is a shelter for immigrant families.
Staying after the general meeting to make Genuine Beauty posters and Easter candy bags will be worth 2 service points.
Since this week is Genuine Beauty Week, we will also have a social media challenge. Posting a picture online with your own definition of “genuine

Contradictory to beauty of the world, the Bible also acknowledges the beauty of faith. However, I am going continue the two verses I used in the paragraph before: 1 Samuel 16:7b, 1 Peter 3:4. Earlier, I mentioned the context of 1 Samuel 16, along with God’s indicating to Samuel that, when looking for a king, the outward appearance and stature were not important. Extending off the first part of 1 Samuel 16:7, God tells Samuel the difference between what a man looks at and what God, himself, sees, “for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7b). As part of an old high school tradition, hundreds of students crowded into a dimly lit cafeteria and danced until the air hung heavy and sweat glistened off every square inch of exposed skin. The schools that began the tradition of the modern homecoming dance most likely did not expect it to evolve into what it is today; at some point, we, as students, lost the true purpose of the event and instead became preoccupied with image. Even though I would have liked to think that those things did not matter, I still found myself altering my appearance that Saturday night to try and show off the best version of myself. I was not alone; other females joined me amidst a pile of cosmetic products and styling tools, and we had the pictures to showcase…

Because of the many delicate issues they encounter, male beauty gurus are unsure of how far is too far when it comes to challenging such cultural norms. In my research, I found that male beauty gurus challenge or confirm norms in varying degrees. I think this is because of the fact that these norms have only recently began to nudge. As Fabricant and Gould’s experiment tell us, in 1993, men wearing makeup were considered an abomination. Today, with the increased presence of male beauty gurus on YouTube, we see that these standards are beginning to change.…
