According to an article on pbs.org, “gentrification is a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district’s character and culture”. Some of the points of having gentrification take place is to reduce crime, make an area desirable to live in, and have economic activity increase. Although these are some positive ways to impact a neighborhood, some of the people that have been living in these neighborhoods for many years end up having to pay a high price, quiet literally. Old tenants end up having to move out as new tenants, who are seen as competition due to their higher paychecks, end up moving in and begin to change the neighborhood
