The Genting Group was established in 1965 by the late Tan Sri Dr. Lim Goh Tong with the development of a beautiful Highland Resort in Malaysia called Resorts World Genting (formerly known as Genting Highlands Resorts) in Malaysia. The increasingly conservative mood in the domestic Muslim population makes it impossible for new challengers to appear in the domestic market. However, the same shift in religion increases the likelihood that one of Genting's own licenses may be withdrawn one day. In the meantime, Genting also faces new competition in other parts of the region before empowering casinos. Genting has taken many ways to deal with this situation. On the one hand, the company continued to rebuild the resort itself, no longer favoring its previous casino business and expanding into the travel and home entertainment markets more widely. However, the company is also starting to expand its hospitality and leisure business, not just Genting Highlands
