He was born on October 26, 1685 in Naples Italy. He was a middle child, the 6th out of 10. His father was also a well known composer named Alessandro Scarlatti. It is thought that he first studied music with his father. Then he became a composer and organist at the Naples chapel in 1701. He was sent to Venice by his dad then nothing is known about him until about 1709. In 1709 he went to Rome and performed some private operas for the queen of the time. Then in 1719 he traveled to London and directed an opera for the king there. He also went to Lisbon in this year and taught music to the princess of Lisbon. He then went back to Rome in 1727 when he married Maria Caterina Gentili his first wife. Then in 1729 he moved to Seville for four years.
