It was just like any other autumn morning. I shivered in the sheets and blankets of my frigidly cold bed, and I stood up lazily. Yawning, I poured myself a bowl of cereal. As I gnawed on my Frosted Flakes, I noticed that my window overlooking my neighborhood was completely spray-painted black. I rushed over to the window, and I was numbed with shock at what I saw. Rather, what I didn’t see. All of the outside world was pitch black

PM 11:37, October 6, 2015. After I came out from library, I walked on Bascom Hill. I pulled out my earphones and tried to feel the environment. Contrast to bright and noisy State Street and Wisconsin State Capitol, where I could see in distant, where I was covered with darkness and silence. There was a just a little light from streetlight, and only yellow and green leaves are glowing near that streetlight As I sit down next to biggest tree and feel the cushion of lawn, I found out there are not many things that I can observe here.…

The pale skinned girl walked with the sound of her heels clicking the midnight concrete. Her breath visible in the cold air, she tugged her yellow raincoat closer to her small body. She turned left on the road, coming upon a deserted farmhouse, she was frightened. As she strolled past, there sat a motorcycle, it seemed older, and out of shape. As the streetlamp and lights of the night lit up the old deserted house, she glanced over towards it.…

Throughout my life, I have been the victim of several burglaries. At the age of seven, someone, in broad daylight, broke into our house and shot my dad in the chin. I was displaced to my aunt's house for weeks and missed most of my 1st grade year. When I was seventeen, I walked in on my home being robbed by some local kids. They were upstairs when I came into the house and escaped through a window, but the idea that I could have come home earlier still haunts me.…

The dusty debris clouded my feet as I moved through the ruins of the neighborhood. The pungent smell of the blood overwhelmed my nostrils, and my eyes watered partly from the effect of the dust and primarily from the overwhelming sadness and fury that warred inside of me. The once polished commercial buildings were wrecked; broken windows, crumbled pieces of the wall, and gang graffiti served as evidence of the disaster that struck this neighborhood. Silence ran throughout the area, and no human presence could be detected. The evening sunlight projected a red tint over the wreckage, like spatters of blood, and indicated the upcoming arrival of the rebels; who carried out their attacks predominately during the night.…
