After interviewing H’s mom, I sent a follow up email stating I had noticed behaviors of her not following through when given directions in the classroom. I asked her if she notices the same behaviors at home and if she does what strategies she uses to try to help H work through them. Her mom responded and told me that she still notices them, but is unsure of what to do. She also informed me a little about the appointment H had with a child psychologist. The psychologist told them that H probably does have either an attention or processing issue, but would need further evaluation to determine any diagnosis. I then emailed H’s mom my plan on what I would do to work with H. The first step in my plan was to ask H if she heard what the teachers …show more content…
I have updated H’s mom weekly on the progress I have seen H make in the classroom. I explained to her while she still does not follow through with directions every time, she has improved significantly. H repeating what she is being told allows her to have more time to process what is being asked of her. She says that she has noticed a slight change in H’s behavior at home, but still has some concerns regarding the information the psychologist gave her. I noticed that H is having an easier time interacting with her classmates since I have started working with her. She is not wandering around the room as much, and is more engaged in the activities provided in the classroom. I feel that if the teachers in the classroom and H’s family continue with this plan, H will continue to gain success in her abilities to listen to and follow directions the first time they are given. I also think that if H is taken for further evaluation, they may be able to come up with more or better strategies to help improve her issue with attention or processing as mentioned by the
