4. From what I learned about my family history from the genogram assignment, many of them hold jobs that involve a great deal of communication. A job similar to the one from my interview would fit this aspect better because of the sales part of it, even though interaction with team/work members would meet this standard. This career would fit greatly for what my parents and family members expect of me. From my genogram, I learned that most of my family members do something that affects society directly. My Uncle David for example, is a safety engineer for the aircraft manufacturing company known as Boeing. My father works as a manager for a sector of the government officials by lobbying around all counties in Indiana. He has a great deal of

My 5 Year Vision assignment relates to this career beginning since I am going to attend law school. After interviewing H’s mom, I sent a follow up email stating I had noticed behaviors of her not following through when given directions in the classroom. I asked her if she notices the same behaviors at home and if she does what strategies she uses to try to help H work through them. Her mom responded and told me that she still notices them, but is unsure of what to do. She also informed me a little about the appointment H had with a child psychologist. The psychologist told them that H probably does have either an attention or processing issue, but would need further evaluation to determine any diagnosis.…

The person I chose to interview for the second assignment was my mother, Casey Pike. I chose to interview my mother because I have witnessed her deceive my father and sometimes have been involved in the lie. Growing up both my parents worked and my family was fortunate enough to not have to worry about financial problems. My senior year of high school my father suddenly lost his job and it affected his way of thinking about money. Since then, he has gotten a new job, but with the fluctuating oil and gas business he has become extremely tight with money despite the fact that we now have the money to spend it more freely.…

2 Past The genogram paper I wrote gave me the convenience of learning the internal dynamics of my own family. I broke down my family step and applied the family systems theory and learned our boundaries, rules, expectations, and interactions among all the members of my immediate family. It was crazy to see first hand how interconnected my family is as a system, instead of observing it from another family.…

When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

if there is one thing college has taught me, it is that it does not matter what you think you are going to become, or how far back you start from, but it is that determination in the place of those disadvantages is what makes all the difference. I did not choose to be a lawyer because anyone in my family was, in fact, no one in my family worked anything close to it. My mother has worked as a waitress, a seamstress in a factory, and finally as a baker since arriving in this country. I took it upon myself to try and become something more, something that my mother did not have the opportunity to be. As the oldest child in a house of three I fulfilled the function of the interpreter in the family, which gave me the sense of responsibility and maturity that came with that role.…

Do you think you can become more successful than your parents? Based on my parents and grandparents’ lack of education and opportunities I believe that I will indeed become more successful. I will apply sociological concepts such as inequality, power, authority, and class to explain my event, all tying into the conflict theory approach. I will explain how my example demonstrates intergenerational mobility and I will also apply a theoretical perspective to analyse the situation. Based on the opportunities I have, compared to the ones my parents had gives me an advantage to tower above them in the social hierarchy.…

Doing a Genogram about my family history, beliefs, and culture is somewhat difficult for me due to a number of reasons. One being that I never met my biological father therefore don’t know anything of the family background that compiles half of my genetic make up, another reason being because I know very little of my mother’s extended family, and frankly because I don’t think we really have many structured family beliefs. Before I dive into the cultural beliefs that my family has, let me quickly explain my family dynamic. My mother was one of two daughters. My aunt Debra moved to Texas before I was born and to this day I have never met her or anyone in her family.…

Family Interview Throughout the semester, I have been very excited about this paper and jumped at the opportunity to interview my older sister, Michelle. Our family is a little unconventional, but I would not change it for the world. My sister and I both have the same father, but different mothers due to divorce and remarriage. Interestingly enough, my sister is thirteen years older than me, causing us to spend most of our lives at different points and milestones.…

Although my genogram does not show many obvious signs of “deviant behavior,” there is a great deal that transpires under the surface. Though most of my immediate and extended family drinks alcohol, it has never been excessive or harmful and no one that we know of has any drug addiction. My family tree has a strong pattern of religion, but they vary between denominations within Christianity. This religious base seems like a positive trait; however, it is regularly used against our family members as a moral regulator and makes people feel unaccepted.…
