Listening and communication skills are evident throughout this family. There are many in the family who have taken different languages in high school but most can only speak simple phrases from them.
Reflection
This assessment exercise has reinforced the cultural identity and how it has evolved throughout three generations of my family. Ideas, beliefs, and behaviors portrayed by the older generation have inspired a conviction that hard work and education are requirements of personal and professional success. Family values and customs are passed along the generations and help shape the intellectual, religious, and social framework of the next (Giger, 2013, p. 2). Many in this genogram have been influential with which I am.
A strong belief in my religion, respect for my fellow man, hard work, and expanding my education are all cultural values passed down and shaped the person I am. I work hard and strive to be a more proficient and competent nurse by furthering my education. This exercise has helped me to understand who I am but also know and value where I came from.
