Ann Frank stated “If we bear all this suffering and if there are still Jews left, when it is over, then Jews, instead of being doomed, will be held up as an example.” It was Ann Franks hope that Survivors of the holocaust would be able to become an example and advocate for peace because of the things that they went through. She hoped that the impact that the holocaust made on their lives would be lessened because of the care of others and that people would never forget what they went through. Ann Franks hopes were met with the holocaust being on of the most remembered and documented holocaust of all time. Unlike the holocaust which is included in almost every school curriculum around the world the events that happened in the Bosnian genocide are hardly ever taught or even mentioned. Genocide can be classified into 8 different stages classification, symbolization, dehumanization, organization, polarization, extermination and denial. Denial is a crucial stage to survivors at the end of the genocide. Most countries that are responsible for a genocide will try to deny what happened in some kind of way. Often countries will use denial as a final way to destroy the group that they wanted to exterminate because it destroys the memory of those who were lost and contributes to the physiological destruction of survivors. Denial has the ability to kill memory of those lost in the genocide. This has extremely detrimental effects on the survivors because when countries no not admit to committing atrocities or make very minimal effort to reconcile for their mistakes it impacts the lives and morals of survivors. Most Bosnian Serbs still deny to this day that there was a genocide carried out against Bosnian Muslims. It is a common occurrence in Bosnia for Bosnian Serbs to stand beside memorials for the Serbian war and try to convince people that the Serbs were actually the victims or that the Bosnian Muslims were overestimating the numbers of people killed. Serbs have even claims that the crowds of Bosnian Muslims that gather to morn the loss of their families are imposters paid my western NGOs to make it look like a genocide happened. Denial of the Bosnian genocide is also popular in Russia and Muslim hating Americans who do not believe that 8000 Muslims were slaughtered.
