Genocide In Yemen Essay

Many would agree that Yemen is currently in a genocide since over 1,500 people have been killed and millions being displaced, however, this may not be the case of genocide. Yemen is currently in danger of potential genocide due to a civil war between Iran and Russia. Yemen is caught in the middle of a crossfire with a rebellious group known as the Houthis within Yemen. There are no specific race, gender, or religion being targeted. The police have been acting against the civilians as well, disliking the banished president. “If Yemen doesn’t fairly investigate and prosecute those responsible for this deadly attack, it risks perpetuating the culture of impunity at the heart of Yemen’s uprising” (Almosawa, 7). Officials are biased towards different sides, making decisions that may harm the country even more.
Furthermore, some may say that the Yemen situation is improving, but there is an argument for the opposite. Yemeni police are also acting on their own, not protecting the people. “The police fired on activists trying to reach the place where the rally was being held" (Almosawa, 6). Police attempted to control the people, but by doing so costed more lives, increasing the chances of conflict, which increases the chance of genocide. Without a unified police force, there is no way to contain the civilians from overreacting.
Consequently, a point can be made for genocide, as civilians are being killed and most of the population are in need. However, this is not considered genocide since the killings are not targeting certain people. The killings can happen to anyone, Saudi Arabia is simply attempting to regain their land by launching airstrikes against the
