Genocide, the deliberate killing of a large group of people, was used to kill particularly those of a specific ethnic group or culture. An example of genocide would be the Aztecs when the Spanish defeated them entirely. This happened in the 1500’s when Cortez, the leader of the Spanish Conquistadors and his men sailed out looking for gold, glory and god. When they came into contact with what is now Mexico, they found the Aztecs who had been practicing their own culture and ways of life which was different from the Spanish. The Aztecs believed that they had to give human sacrifice in order to please the gods so that the sun would rise each day. The gods were in every aspect of the Aztecs worldview, in fact, they settled in a swampy, ratty city
