Sudan, Africa is a grand place of high potential given its size and location within the continent of Africa. Within the Country of Sudan is a western region called Darfur. Darfur is a beautiful area that has turned ugly in its recent years. It has remained independent for a long period of time, while the states around Darfur have been fighting back against Ottoman Empire forces that were attempting to colonize the area. This was until 1847, when the leaders of Darfur had fallen or were killed. Royal families attempted to rebel against the colonization but had not succeeded. Soon, Sudan was ruled by joint British-Egyptian rule. Later, Sudan finally gained independence on January 1, 1956. This independence would lead to terrible conflicts regarding …show more content…
It is roughly the size of Spain. Darfur is the western region of Sudan and is not a country itself. The region has very diverse ethnicity and is divided into 3 provinces- North, South, and West Darfur. Each province has their own capitals in the cities of El Fasher, Nyala, and Geneina. Throughout Darfur, many diverse religious groups live within the provinces. Before the terrible genocide, ethnic conflicts had started because of the demand for the limited resources.
