According to Newton and The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), “genetically modified goods can cause issues with fertility, the failure of the immune system, accelerated aging, and changes in the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal system” (Newton 91). In addition to the research findings by the AAEM, a group of Chinese researchers found that individuals that consumes GMOs possessed miRNA (micro Ribonucleic Acid) in their blood. These researches say that “these miRNA could attribute to disruptions in cellular function, an increased risk of diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as an increase of allergies” (Newton 91-92). Because of this, many in society have an irrational fear or paranoia that this situation will eventually become a reality. Another concern regarding genetically modified babies is that they violate the laws of nature and other’s philosophical beliefs. In Goldbas’ article, she says, “genetic modifications engender ethical issues such as creating designer babies and an unlimited extension of the human life span thus violating the creator’s will” (Goldbas 21).
