Genetically Modified Organisms: Good Or Bad?

The “faster and cheaper” way of producing food for the large consuming global markets and human population: Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s), artificial foods that have been changed so that it can include the desirable traits of other foods. Although the idea behind GMO’s is morally good, it is actually doing more harm than good. GMO’s are exhausting the planet’s resources much more quickly than the planet can make up for. Animals feed on these resources but GMOs are creating an ecological imbalance. The species in every ecosystem work together in the environment to maintain a certain balance to ensure that the ecosystem can run smoothly. For example, food chains show us that animals are a necessary part of our environment, an interwoven web of producers and consumers, that keeps the ecosystem running, but should one species be lost in a chain, the disturbance would make …show more content…
Insects are known to be able to adapt to most pesticides after a while in order to keep the ecosystem stable so if we make plants with super strong pesticides, we will only have super strong pests that probably carry various deadly diseases so if humans were to eat things that are pest infested, the human race shall plausibly go extinct. Pesticides are used to kill or contain/control any pests that gets to the crops but there’s a huge possibility that it could kill the bugs and animals that are actually helpful to the environment. People who are for GMOs might argue that “some GMOs could produce some pesticides that would prevent bugs from eating it instead of killing them” and this idea does seem very rational but it is highly impossible to be able to manipulate a whole species and even if we somehow did, they would just damage the environment more by eating something else that is needed in the
