GMO seeds cost less than normal seeds because they have been distributed by bigger companies. The same companies that distributes the seeds are capable of growing food themselves, but in order to make more profit they sell these seeds for other farmers to grow. This benefits the farmers because they’re able to stay in business and keep their family farm running throughout generations. GMO seeds are engineered to be able to withstand weather, pests, fungus bacteria and weeds, allowing farmers to save their money at all the harmful chemicals that they have been putting on plants and focus more on growing. At the end of the growing cycle, there would be far more acceptable crops for selling because the majority of the foods have survived. The farmer would have made more money from these crops to be able to buy more seeds for the next crop cycle because they are selling more and not throwing the majority of food away. Some farmers are able to buy shares in the companies in which they get their seeds from, which who broadens the GMO industry (Topkis, Maggie …show more content…
As said before, with GMO seeds the farmer is able to produce more crops than they would have been able to with normal seeds. This is beneficial because there are roughly 7 billion people in the world that needs to be fed. Out of the 7 billion people in the world, approximately 13 million children under the age of five are malnourished. (Khan, S.J 2012). With normal seeds, farmers have been unable to keep up with the demand of the world’s growing population. With foods that have been mass produced and sold in bulks such as rice, genetically engineered rice is selling better because of its ability to hold in moisture (Ostrander, Madeline 2014). There has been the study and which majority of the people in India had no preference in rice that was GMO or organic (Shew, Aaron 2016). The world demand for food supports farmers to stay in business causing more business interactions for them and more food for the world. With the introduction of GMO seeds farmers produced more food that can be sold on the market. The production of more food could help feed more people in the world such as the large population of malnourished five year
