Genetically Modified Organisms
Did you know that 70-80% of the food produced by farmers in the United States is Genetically Modified? In fact, most of the food in the produce section at your grocery store are genetically modified. And what is interesting is that you can not tell the difference because they look exactly like organic produce. This is why It is important to read labels more often, make sure what anything purchase says “Non-gmo”, and be more attentive on other foods just incase. The development of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) should be discontinued because they create new health issues, they cause harm to the environment, and they have more dangerous ingredients than naturally produced foods.
A Genetically Modified Organism is when a scientist takes the DNA of a crop or any kind and puts it into another unrelated crop. This is done because it makes crops grow bigger and faster but unfortunately they are less healthy. Based on research done in Iowa State University, they have found that GMO foods contain things that make the immune system less resistant to diseases when antibiotics are taken. When you combine two unrelated species to genes, they produce very harmful side effects that have no cure and this is what genetic engineering is doing to crops. The body may not react to it before it was processed but it is most likely to cause allergic reaction once it has been processed because some proteins are either taken out, mixed with others, or new ones…
