Did you know that 70-80% of the food produced by farmers in the United States is Genetically Modified? In fact, most of the food in the produce section at your grocery store are genetically modified. And what is interesting is that you can not tell the difference because they look exactly like organic produce. This is why It is important to read labels more often, make sure what anything purchase says “Non-gmo”, and be more attentive on other foods just incase. The development of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) should be discontinued because they create new health issues, they cause harm to the environment, and they have more dangerous ingredients than naturally produced foods.
A Genetically Modified Organism is when a scientist takes the DNA of a crop or any kind and puts it into another unrelated crop. This is done because it makes crops grow bigger and faster but unfortunately they are less healthy. Soon, companies will not want to sell GMO products or keep producing them anymore because they are not being bought. In other countries, it is easier to avoid GMO’s but in the United States and Canada it is not because labeling is not a requirement. Foods such as meat, eggs, and any dairy product does not require labeling and these foods are the most popular foods we buy almost every time we go grocery shopping. To stay on the safe side, read the labels on the food and make sure they are organic, make sure it says “Non-GMO”, and grow a personal, naturally produced garden.
