GMOs (or “genetically modified organisms”) are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering, or GE. GMOs have been a problem in the world for many years. GMOs have been affecting the world since 1994 when they were first introduced in grocery stores. GMOs cause major problems for humans; there is no solution for GMOs because humans are unaware of the effects GMOs have. Humans are not worried about what harm GMOs have because there are articles stating that scientist proved that GMOs are harmless. Although some researchers have concluded that GMOs cannot affect humans, but there is much stronger evidence to the contrary that GMOs can affect humans such as increasing the …show more content…
GMOs cause human health hazards by increasing the risk for humans and interfering with the human body. Environmental hazards are caused from GMOs by genetically engineering plants and animals. Plants and animals are not growing natural, they animals are growing bigger than there suppose to grow and the plants are growing with pesticides already on them so bugs and animals won 't eat them. Animals have to suffer more than plants animals have to get tested on, to see whether GMOs have health effects or not. "Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food, including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system... There is more than a causal association between GM foods and adverse health effects. There is causation ..."(Mercola …show more content…
“Despite the misleading claims of companies selling them. Genetically engineered (GE) crops will not alleviate traditional environmental concerns, such as the chemical contamination of water, air or soil. Far from eliminating pesticides, GE crops have actually increased this chemical pollution”(Tamara par.2). When plants are genetically modified to make its own pesticide, the soil which the plant was grown in can be contaminated from the chemicals that plant may release into the soil. The contaminated soil in the ground contaminates the groundwater. Groundwater is water located under the Earth’s surface and supplies wells, aquifers and streams and makes up approximately 70 % of the world’s fresh water supply. The air is contaminated by GMOs from evaporation. Evaporation is the process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas or vapor. The groundwater becomes surface water and then surface water evaporates into the

In “The Threats from Genetically Modified Foods”, Robin Mather effectively brings awareness to the American public of the harmful side effects of genetically modified (GM) foods. She shares that genetically modified foods are foods with an altered genetic make-up. This alteration has lead them to be banned in several countries. However, in the United States, GM foods are not strictly regulated and, therefore, not required to be labeled. Also, the pesticides used in genetically modified foods yield harmful side effects in animals and humans.…

Throughout the decades our ancestors have naturally grown their food source and have been able to survive without GMOs. In this era, GMOs have been increasingly common in all most all products bought in stores and have been linked to health issues that causes concerns amongst certain scientific communities. These GMOs also affected livestock and have damaged every organ studied in lab animal We hold these truths to be self-evident that every man is created equal and is given the natural right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To acquire these rights GMOs need to be labeled so we do not harm oneself or anyone around.…

Monsanto grew over 75% of genetically modified plants from herbicide-tolerant-resistance seeds and Roundup Ready is the most popular seed rating 52% in growth. However, the added active ingredient called glyphosate is five times more toxic than the original brand of Roundup. Farmers spray even more toxic chemicals on the plants without killing them and the toxic residues are still unable to be washed off. Monsanto cites, “genetically modified crops promotes greater yields for farmers”. In contrast, genetically modified crops have not performed greater than traditional counterparts.…

“Recent studies have found that farmers growing genetically engineered crops are using just as many toxic pesticides and herbicides as conventional farmers and in some cases using more”(Miller). In addition, scientists predict that there will be a growth in “ BT- resistant pests will eliminate the effectiveness of a natural pesticide that organic farmers use”(Miller). Scientists have tested GMOs on animals to show the effects of consuming Genetically modified crops. One example is “when female rats were fed GMOs before, and during their pregnancy more than 50% of their offspring died within 3 weeks of birth” (Smith). Finally, many health risks come with dining on these Genetically Modified Organisms.…

However, these studies were found unreliable due to it using rats that would get tumors and the experiment using a small sample size. While the use of GM food have increased in the production system make GM foods in the past couple decades, the effects of genetically modified foods have recently started to be more observed in making. Gmo’s back in the ancient times We have come a long way that's when the only modified food was produced when ancient farmers started off with corn. From 1994, when the first Genetically Modified Foods, genetically engineered tomatoes, were first placed in grocery stores. Genetic engineering of started when scientist thought they could combine two DNAs in one food to make it more tasteful.…

According to the Non GMO Project, GMOs, or Genetically Modified Organisms, are "living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering.” This generally new science makes insecure blends of plant, animal, bacterial and viral qualities that don't happen in nature or through typical cross-mating systems. Evidence continually draws a connection between GMOs and health issues, ecological threat, and infringement of farmers' and customers' rights. The biggest debate is whether or not it is safe to genetically alter the natural state of the food we consume.…

Unpredicted results can arise from mixing genes from unrelated organisms. GMOs are created by altering specific genes for a specific result, but every gene doesn’t only just one protein. Unintended proteins can be created by complex interactions taking place, and they could be toxic. It is surmised, but not proven, that genetically modifying crops can potentially cause an increase in allergens and toxic proteins in the plants and cause…

GMO’s have been getting a lot of speculation as to what are the positives and negatives but the main enquiry is about the effect they have on our health. GMO’s have been entering our food supplies, mainly in the form of plants but there haven’t been many recorded dangers or harmful side effects. Many people are afraid of scientists tampering and modifying their food because they are not fully aware of what GMO’s can do, they think that we are at risk.…

For instance, GMOs reduce “biodiversity, pollute water resources, and are unsustainable” (10 Reasons to Avoid GMOs 2). One example is the 50% population drop of monarch butterflies in the US. Research shows that this is because of the use of the Roundup herbicide. Because of GM crop seeds cross pollination, farmers who choose to grow organic and non-GMO crops “struggle to keep their crops pure” (10 Reasons to Avoid GMOs 1).…
