The people who oppose genetically modified food are spreading fear of synthetic food and are claiming that the food will destroy things instead of help: “The claim that GM organisms might escape and infect non-GM animals and plants is scare-mongering” (Roskam). Many statements like this one have been proven incorrect. So that is why it is important to look at all of the facts instead of just looking at the other people’s accusations. If people just look at the others accusations, like the one stated above, then they could be told false statements and be misled. As a matter of fact, scientists have said that there are many safety precautions taken to avoid disruption and they have also proven that “In 20 years of engineered strains all over the world there have been no cases of death or illness” (Gertzman). This fact shows that the previous statement, made by the non-supporters of genetically modified food, about the food infecting other organisms was false. This also shows that opposers of synthetic food are willing to over exaggerate or even make up lies to get their way. They have even gone so far with trying to get their way that they have disrupted some important experiments. Many experiments that could potentially improve or save lives have been put on hold just …show more content…
First off, one reason why it could improve the future drastically is because it can lead to many health benefits. Professor Yoram Kapulnik said that “Once we have a complete picture of the human genome, we’ll know how to create food that better meets our needs” (Gertzman). To get a complete picture of the human genome, scientists need to be able to run experiments, but the non-supporters of synthetic food are holding back some experiments like this one. Secondly, another reason why genetically modified food could improve the future is because it can be a more efficient way of preserving the environment. One example on how it could preserve the environment is by making the idea that “safer, healthier meat could be grown using animal cells, instead of living animals” (American) come true. In this example, genetically modified food would be solving, or at least improving, problems like pollution and land space. They would solve or improve land space because the land for animals to pasteurize wouldn’t be needed, so there would be more land for the growing population. Without genetically modifying food, none of these improvements or solutions to many major world problems would be
