and is a significant public health threat Bakshi. Allergic reactions in humans occur when a normally harmless protein enters the body and stimulates an immune response Bernstein. If the novel protein in a GM food comes from a source that is known to cause allergies in humans or a source that has never been consumed as human food, the concern that the protein could elicit an immune response in humans increases.Millions of dollars are invested in this bioengineering process annually by many, with Bill Gates most notably investing into Monsanto with 500,000 shares(Exposure to Environmental …show more content…
The consumption of genetically modified foods comes significant organ disruptions, especially in the liver and kidneys. A primary concern is preventing genetically modified versions from mixing with the naturally existing populations of plants from which they're derived. Plants rely on the transfer of pollen, by insects or the air, to breed and produce offspring, and it's difficult to control how they cross-breed in the wild. Despite the controversy surrounding them, genetically modified plants have taken root in our world. As with any new technology, members of society have the responsibility to become informed about genetically modified plants, in order to make decisions about their responsible use and regulation. This is one of the most problems that many people have with GMOs because if people find something that they are allergic to, then they might have a big problem with themselves. Monsanto has created GMO crops that contain something known as Bt, which is a toxin incorporated into the crops with the intention of killing off insects. The usage of the Bt biopesticide within these GMO crops, however, has actually led to ‘mutant’ insect populations which are directly resistant to the biopesticide. Reports state that at least 8 insect populations have developed resistance, with 2 populations resistant to Bt sprays and at least 6 species resistant to Bt crops as a whole. As a result,
