Genetically Modified Organisms is a very large topic that has been debated back and forth for years. A Genetically Modified Organism is an organism or product that has been taken into a lab and genetically altered. It is done for a multitude of reasons. Those reasons range from making the crop produce more, to taking out that certain pesky gene that attracts bugs. The shortened version of Genetically Modified Organisms is GMOs. This topic as a lot of pros and cons because of how complex it seems. Genetically Modified Organisms affect out lives in a promising way by trying to create foods that have less pesticides and diseases.

Tests that were and are done on genetically modified products have way more depth than non-GMO (“Frequently asked questions on Genetically Modified Foods”). Gmo’s are tested way more thoroughly than non-GMO products. “59 countries have conducted extensive scientific reviews and affirmed the safety of GM crops with 2497 approvals on 319 different GMO traits in 25 different crops.” (Monsanto Corporation). They gave one Zebrafish GM corn and the other one non-GM corn. Zebrafish were raised under the same temperature and they had a female group and a male group. One set of groups was the control group which was fed with the same amount of non-GMO corn food, as the other set of group, which was the experimental group was fed with the same amount of GMO corn food. They watched the fish for multiple weeks and when it was time to test them, they tested them very thoroughly. After thoroughly done tests, which included DNA extractions, PCR Analysis, Statistical Analysis, Morphological Assessment, DNA Traceability, and Detection of Transgenic and Endogenous Plant DNA. All of these tests were done to test if the GMOs did anything to change the Zebrafish. The conclusion was that the Zebrafish were the same.
