In a world where technology and information are evolved and enhanced every single day, it is not unusual to wonder where to draw the line. When do humans reach the point where we have gone too far, learned too much, and overstep God’s boundaries set up for our own safety? Some would say that we already have, and others would say we do so every day. Mankind has always had an obsession with becoming its own god, and from a Christian perspective, it’s sometimes hard to tell when technology, specifically genetic engineering, stop helping, and begins hindering? Genetic engineering on human beings is only acceptable if done to restore what was lost in the Fall, and is unacceptable when used to try to reach beyond restoration and into evolution. Genetic engineering is unacceptable when used to give humans the role of God. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, genetic engineering is, “the science of making changes to the genes of a plant or animal to produce a desired result” (genetic engineering). In this case, the topic is narrowed so that the main focus will be on that of human genes being altered, rather than those of plants or animals. The means of genetically engineering humans is relatively uniform. Technology has not reached the point where humans can completely alter the human genome, but a basic blueprint is used for genetically modifying plants and animals. First, the desired gene is taken out of the DNA. Second, a molecule is created with the desired gene in it…
