If someone doesn’t have the correct sequence of DNA format, then they are restricted to what they can do in the workforce. Vincent falsifies his DNA and changes his identity with Jerome, who has perfect DNA to get into an astronomic organization that sends astronauts into outer space. Taking a sperm cell from a male and an egg cell from a female, and then scientists can create an offspring. Then when the offspring is born scientists can then by looking at genes scientists can see what the future holds for an individual descendant.…

But for this idea to uphold, everyone needs access to genetic modifying, and it now becomes a requirement verse the inequality in Gattaca. This equality draws the line between a utopian and dystopian world. The potential for the utopia, is that all people are engineered compared to the dystopia, as the world is ideal but only to those who have the advantage of foolproof DNA. Issues then might arise between Taylor and this view in examining the “cost-benefit” analysis that becomes prominent. Every aspect of human life is now quantified, calculated and analyzed.…

In Gattaca “the genetically modified who represent the privileged, dominant group and the genetically unmodified who represent an oppressed group” (Kirby). This oppressed group in Gattaca is considered lower forms of people, who should stick to jobs that valids deem appropriate for their genetic level, such as janitorial services, instead of having ambitions, as Vincent did. Because employers in Gattaca are testing DNA for qualifications of employment and not background, knowledge or experience in a field for job applicants would cause animosity because of this unfair hiring process. Despite an invalid possibly being more qualified than others, as Vincent was, superior genetics is seen as more useful because those with superior genetics can more quickly learn and perform a task/job better than an invalid who is seen as slower unable to offer as much input, or ideas at a place such as Gattaca Aerospace…

Everyone is created equal and in the beginning, this changed as time went on. There are opposites and similarities in the world. It is this factor in which creates and fuels a society. In “Harrison Bergeron” they limited the intelligent and strong, instead of teaching and strengthening the weak. It would be more acceptable to lift up the gifted and make everyone equal that way, instead of bringing everyone down to a totalitarianism where everyone is limited and weak.…

According to him, blind faith in genetic engineering and scientific advancement has placed scientists in a position where they play God. As the world of science enters the realm of what was once science fiction, many important debates and discussions will serve to mold the world’s future. Thus enter the old science fiction flicks such as the 1997 film Gattaca, a movie ahead of its time with respect to its focus on parents’ eugenic policies that promoted the manipulation of their children’s genes. After viewing this film, it is difficult not to conclude that any form of gene editing technology only leads to a dystopian future in which genetic discrimination rules supreme. We must despise any potential Nazi-esque policies that Vincent Freeman had to suffer through as a result of the eugenic ideal of his society. The obvious enemy of humankind is this gene editing technology…

The introduction of a new idea is often met with risks and turmoil. These are unintended and unforeseen consequences that come inherent with the disruption of the status quo by an eager challenger. Currently, this new attractive idea is genetic manipulation. On the surface, genetic engineering, or GE, offers tremendous opportunity for personal betterment – whether it is tweaking IQ, forging muscle, or building stamina, never has true biological perfection been so attainable as it is today.…

Growing up as an invalid, I was constantly told that it doesn’t matter how good your grades are in school, or how hard I studied, my best option is pretty much a minimalist one. It was preached to me many times that if I was to be able and lucky enough to be a janitor then I should consider myself lucky, and I should be proud to have such an amazing opportunity for a career. Careers should not be determined at birth by one’s parents. Any person, no matter their birth type should be allowed to have the same career goals and opportunities to pursue their…

“At what point do children become artifacts designed to someone’s specifications rather than members of a family to be nurtured? (Hayes 245).” In “Genetically Modified Humans? No Thanks,” Richard Hayes argues against Ronald M. Green, a professor of Emeritus of Religion and of Ethics and Human Values at Dartmouth College, specifically responding to his essay about using genetic technology to change children’s DNA. Hayes, who holds a Ph.D. in Energy and Resource, which saluted the United States to ban human cloning worldwide, believes it would disrupt human nature and the human future.…
