In the Book of Genesis and The Acoma Creation Story, it tells two standpoints of how the world was created by having similar roles of each stories creator. In the genesis, G-d creates the world, that we know today, in six days and takes the seventh day to rest. Similarly, in the Acoma religion, “Uchtsiti, who made the world from a clot of his blood”(leeming 33), is also the creator and G-d-like figure. Both figures created the world in their own separate stories. In the Acoma Creation Story, Uchtsiti states what he wants and with the help of others, his wishes are fulfilled. In the Genesis, G-d states demands and thos demands instantly appear. For example, G-d says “’Let there be light’; and there was light” (Genesis). The Pentateuch reads

Normally, as someone who is highly invested in the idea of science and creation, there is a lack of understanding when it comes to thinking about the different myths of creation. For me, creation all started when a group of molecules happened to join together and eventually evolved into the many organisms that are seen every day. It never occurred to me that there is such a difference between different creation myths. During the first couple of weeks in the semester it became clear that creation is rooted in many cultures in diverse ways.…

And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering" No specific reason is narrated in Genesis as to why God rejected Cain’s sacrifice; however, it is interesting that Abel’s sacrifice was an animal with its fat, while Cain offered produce, as it can relate to Greek culture. It is important to note that in Greek culture the sacrifice of an animal or agriculture, can be seen as an offering to the Gods. Lastly, Deception is a repeating theme in both the Book of Genesis and Hesiod 's Theogony. In Genesis, for example, the snake deceives Eve in the Garden of Eden. "…

The creation stories of Atrahasis and Genesis are similar thematically, but differ in many small details, which stem from the current events and history of the cultures they respectively came from. The parallels of these creation myths can be used to find how the Babylonians influenced the Jewish religion, and how the regions around Mesopotamia and later Israel influenced the culture. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, a snake steals away the plant of immortality from the titular character, similar to how the snake in the Garden of Eden tricks Adam and Eve into eating the fruit of knowledge. By stealing his chance at immortality, Gilgamesh is further from the gods’ power.…

With ever nationality there is a different creation story, to explain the presence of the things we have today with the Solar System, division of land and water, But the similarities and difference I will be toughing on is between West African and Genesis. West African and Genesis creation stories have similarities about how they were created and how humans came about. In the West African and Genesis creation both share the similarity of the Earth starting as nothing but water “All life existed in the sky, Obatala poured sand in the ocean and it separated water from land, then he through a fire ball to melt wet places.” As stated in the comparison chart in the West African section. “In the beginning god created the heaven and the Earth, And…

The term paper is written based on the comparison of the Genesis story with neighboring tales of ancient Israel. These stories and legends were told orally from generation to generation, creating a writing system developed in papyrus and stele. Today, we have access to that information through the studies of history and archeology, which have been important tools to get to know the ancient world. These stories are mostly myths and legends that marked the personal life, politics, and the economy and society of the ancient people (Thompson). The origin of these stories was entirely in the Middle East, including Egypt, Babylon and Sumer; Israel.…

The first eleven chapters of Genesis tells an authoritative story about how God created the world. Many modern historians only loosely accept what the scriptures say about history, this means that while scriptures have been semi accepted as a reliable source of information, there is still disconnection between todays popular history and history according to the scriptures. The Genre of Genesis is a Narrative History and Genealogies. The first eleven chapters of the book use written literature and tells a story of how God created the world.…

This is completely different from the Biblical Worldview that states that God created everything. Genesis1:1 “in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. This is saying that God himself began his creations with earth, not that the earth was here and God became part of it. God came first and then everything else followed, not God second or that they both occurred at the same time. It is similar because both worldviews believed a god(s) are behind all creation and destruction.…

God in the beginning of Genesis seems to be in complete control and methodically creates the world. In the Hebrew creation story there is no murder or fighting just birth of the world. Since there is only one almighty God he does not have to constantly fight with other Gods to get what he wants which I think makes for a much easier time when creating something as important as our world. The Greek creation story on the other hand is much different from the Hebrews peaceful creation. From Theogony the Greek world starts out as emptiness and chaos.…

Certainly, current understanding of the Creation story has gone through an intensive level of examination, because of people’s quest for answers from the Bible’s verse, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” by using many ways of criticism (KJV). A start point for critics and theologians, to develop and analyze, what took place during this complicated process. Furthermore, in Genesis 1:31, “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good,” and completed on “the sixth day,” also brings the whole creation story full circle (KJV). Which this very, early literary description, became the norm, first for the Hebrew people, and now for Christians, because of how these traditions were passed down. Being, that…

The book of Genesis and the poem Enuma Elish both describe the story of creation, in their own ways. Initially we can see that there are very different beliefs of how creation came to be throughout the stories, but there are some underlying concepts that are the same. The relationship between Deity and humanity in Genesis 1 and 2 is one that resembles a father and son, where as in the Enuma Elish humanity is merely a tool for the gods the handle their menial work. The book of Genesis gives the account to how the world was formed and the different promises God gives to his people.…
