Adam and Eve only had virtuous thoughts prior to the sin, even though it was not clear to them. In other words, they never understood anything contrary to good. Adam and Eve developed a conscience upon partaking of the tree of good and evil. “One could infer that it was the origin of dualistic thinking, that is, the origin of an evil conscience vis-à-vis a pure conscience.”…

The theological purpose of Genesis usually gets ignored when these chapters become the center of debate about ‘science and the Bible’. Both atheistic scientists and fundamentalist Christians simply assume that it is appropriate to read them as a scientific text. This ignores some basic considerations of the way the people were living and how people interpreted things at the time. Christians claim that God has been revealed most fully in a particular person who lived at a particular time in a particular culture. This was the culmination of God’s method of self-revelation recorded in the Hebrew Bible, in which God’s word comes to us clothed in the words of particular people, using particular languages and particular forms of literature, all rooted…

In the Bible, the first two chapters of Genesis explain the creation of the world from two distinct perspectives in order to explain the origins of life: Genesis One depicts humanity and animals as equals within a peaceful world but Genesis Two describes the creation of Adam before animals and Eve. In Genesis Three, Eve becomes humanity’s “villain” because of her disobedience to God and her punishment becomes the justification for evil in the world and a basis for the role of women. However, these perceptions fail to truthfully convey why the Genesis chapters negatively interpret and underestimate her abilities as a woman and a human being.…

Therefore, the first half of the creation week does not necessarily proceed along the lines which some insist. The only solution to this difficulty would be to interpret the text as saying that the Sun appeared on the fourth day, but that it had actually been created on the first and was therefore the source of the light which separated day and night. This is something which the adamantly literal interpreters refuse to do. In critiquing Hugh Ross for suggesting such an arrangement, Terry Mortenson of Answers in Genesis explicitly argues that the Sun, Moon, and Stars were not created until the fourth day, advancing his argument along several lines. 14…

It talks about God first created the earth and heavens, then he created the light, sky, land, water, vegetation, and different living creatures, include human beings, in six days. History has seen it's share of needless conflict and bloodbaths. For as long as history has been recorded, our ancestors held zeal and fervor towards causes which are no more than speculation and assumed realities. Our ancestors have killed, been killed, tortured, and were tortured over the "correct" interpretation, the "correct" faith, over who's ignorance wielded the sharpest sword. Faith is dubbed as one of the most driving causes of war, in itself among the most heartbreaking of realities. To slay a breathing individual with a family and believed purpose of their own, for a belief in a supernatural concept which may very well be a delusion, is a heart wrenching sorrow indeed.…

Humans are obsessed with questions of existence; we often ponder the purpose of life, the purpose of the world, and the purpose of everything that exists. Although the true, scientifically-proven purpose of the universe is difficult to find, humans most often refer to the idea of God; more, to the connection with God. However, what truly establishes the continuing connection between God and humankind? The Genesis, the holy book, is an example of a religious text that has forever changed and shaped modern day thoughts and opinions on God and the identity of God. More specifically, in the seventh and first chapters of The Genesis, purposeful repetition is used in order to express a direct connection between humankind and God.…
