Genesis And Revelation Comparison

Improved Essays
Genesis is the opening book and Revelation is the closing book of the collection of stories called the bible. Genesis and Revelation are similar in many ways, but also contradict each other in an equal numbers of ways. By the end of revelation, God creates a new earth that is holy and does not contain any sin, unlike Genesis in which the new world is filled with sin, satan, curses, tears and death. Revelation also diminishes the need for a sun, and the drive to hide from God because of impurities as well as creates a perfect sun (Life Application Study Bible 2169). Revelation would be a better book to build a society off of because it is written to convince the population of the need to believe in Jesus and it creates an image in the reader’s

In the readings I found a significant meaning to each story that involved a flood. I believe that the human concept of a disastrous flood had a reason behind every flood. In Genesis God seen that evil was overtaking humankind and God chose to “wipe out the human race” with a flood. In the Epic of Gilgamesh the story had the same concept as Noah’s Ark in Genesis and that was to destroy mankind and the sins that was within them. The flood(s) was definitely global, in many cultures the stories of the flood(s) exist.…

This is important to understanding both of these works, as it must be noted that the Gods or God essentially saved us all from the deep nothingness that existed. Furthermore, another similarity that both the Book of Genesis and Hesiod 's Theogony share is the Biblical and Greek stories speak about a relationship between man and God. In both man is trying to placate God by offering sacrifices and God is not satisfied. This idea can be seen in the Book of Genesis through the story of Cain and Abel. " And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord... And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof.…

Two accounts of the Great Flood exist for examination of this monumental event that occurred in the history of the ancient world. These documents are the Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bible’s account of Noah’s Flood in Genesis. Both stories of the Great Flood on the earth carry similarities and differences from one another, which can be observed through the timing of events during and following the Flood, the actions of Utanapishtim and Noah following the Flood, and the interactions between Utanapishtim and the gods and Noah and God. First, in comparing the passages of the Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah’s Flood, differences in the timings of events can be spotted. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the time frame for the Flood is given as six days and seven nights of wind and rain, whereas in the account of Noah’s Flood, the time frame for the Flood is given as forty days and forty nights.…

Andre Gore IH Mosaics Section 091 Professor Cyphers The Floods of Gilgamesh and Genesis There is a close resemblance between the flood story in the Epic of Gilgamesh, and the flood story in the Book of Genesis. Although the two stories have their differences in context, there is a close similarity in the reasoning behind the events, and in the events themselves. In both stories, the gods send a huge flood, which wipes out all of humanity, except for the few people who are chosen to survive. Those chosen ones in both stories survive the flood, allowing the human race to be restored. In both stories, the gods cause the floods as a resolution to their issues with humans on earth.…

Mary was quite possibly the most famous woman of the Bible. She was the virgin mother of Jesus Christ our Lord. Many have tried to discredit the story of Mary and Joseph, her husband, saying a virgin becoming pregnant and giving birth is simply not possible. Though we cannot know for certain the birth of Mary, people of Christian faith have celebrated her birthday as September the 8th, which is exactly 9 months following the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. This is seemingly how her birthday has been determined.…

In the Book of Revelation, the theme of God enforcing destruction of the world and the unbelievers is prominent throughout the chapters, and the colored horsemen help advance that theme. Destruction of the world is apparent because war affects the nations that are involved in the war, which may lead to bloodshed. Additionally, chapter six starts with the horsemen representing the consequences for unbelievers during the Tribulation period. This period is meant to discipline the unbelievers for their immoral actions. The first horse represents the Antichrist, or the being that is opposing Christ and promoting false auguries.…

In viewing many online debates between Christians and non-believers concerning the matter of God, often times it is the non-believer who obtains the upper hand in the argument. When confronted with difficult questions concerning God’s revelation, many Christians are unable to properly defend the questions of objectors or even the Christian faith. For many Christians, God’s revelation is through the lens of a less than Christian worldview where knowledge of God is imperfect and clarified through societal norms, preconceptions, and judgments (McGrath, 2014). Lacking the biblical knowledge to fend off a non-believers questioning concerning matters of faith, God’s revelation included, Christians resort to their own reason based off theirs and…
