Introduction
In this essay I am looking at the passage of Genesis 45:4-8 as it portrays the culmination of events in the life of Joseph, Jacob his father, his brothers, and ultimately his whole family and everybody who was connected with them. I see it as an amazing story of Gods faithfulness towards His chosen people, bringing restoration and redemption where there seems to be no hope

Prior to the meeting with Joseph in Egypt, Israel and all his family were in the midst of a great famine, the very famine that Joseph had spoken about when he had interpreted Pharaoh’s dream (see Gen 41:14-39) resulting in him being put in charge of all of Egypt.
Little did the brothers of Joseph know the consequences of their actions when they faked his death and sold him into slavery. They thought at the time they were getting rid of a pesky and presumptuous brother with which they held allot of jealousy and anger towards and they would have

As He set in place a plan for Joseph and His family to provide for them in their time of need and ultimately save them, so He has a plan for us. As Joseph was to his family, Christ is to us the hidden plan of God’s salvation that is revealed to us in great revelation. This mighty plan of salvation laid out before the foundations of the world. I love what F. B. Meyer says in his book The Life of Joseph: “”and Joseph said unto his brethren, come near to me”(vs4). They had gone father and farther back from him, but now he bids them approach. This is a beautiful illustration of the way in which a sinner may be reinstated in the loving favour of God. We are not set to serve a time of probation. We need not stand afar off. We may step right into the deepest and closest intimacy with the son of

In the Book of Genesis, trickery and deception is demonstrated by characters who are never punished for their behavior, but his actions usually get him further ahead in the story. The literary form and genre of the book of Genesis is prose: biblical and historical narrative. Biblical narratives in Genesis show that “God is active in His world” and these narratives typically “chose certain events to reveal God.” For instance, this element is apparent when the Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, granting her the promise of descendants (Gen 16:10). In the same manner, this element is reinforced in subsequent chapters (Gen 17:19; 18:10). In describing this book, it is significant to note that most of the characters in the narrative are flawed.…

Revivalist preacher, Jonathon Edwards, in his homily, From Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, conveys the idea that those who haven’t experienced an internal renewal are servants of the devil. Edwards’ purpose is to portray the depravity and perversion of sinners and their ways. He adopts multiple tones, a fearful tone being a prevalent one, in order to foreground the immorality of choosing sin over God and the implications of doing so. Edwards proficiently uses the stylistic choices of diction and syntax to reiterate the power of God and the inevitable judgment he will provide for those who disobey.…

Once he kept two Tutsi women to his house for protection but kept the women captive to allow other men to rape the women. He had those two women killed and had their nude bodies publicly displayed in the town center (Fujii 2015, 18). Joseph’s extra-lethal activities allowed him to stage himself in a manner that emphasizes the fact that he wants to become more than just a nationalist. The question that arises in this incident is what was Joseph’s motive to perform these transgression acts? He already had enough power to kill anyone.…

Any rich story weaves in symbolism and foreshadowing. This enhances the meaning of the narrative, gives the audience clues to the future, and sets the stage for multiple themes. The drama of the Bible checks all of these boxes and then some. Although there are many characters in the first formative years of Israel’s existence, the character of Joshua, leads Israel into a temporary Promised Land, which foreshadows the role that Jesus plays in the unfolding narrative. Reading the events leading up to Joseph’s forgiveness of his brothers could give the reader the impression that Joseph is a vengeful character, choosing to humiliate his brothers out of revenge for the way they treated him. However when an individual looks at the entirety of the Joseph narrative they will see that this humiliation was necessary to see whether Joseph’s brothers had learned anything from their previous behaviour. Genesis 46 contributes little to the Jacob-Joseph narrative, after the events of the previous chapters leading up to Jacob’s migration into Egypt acts as a buffer, where the author is preparing the reader for the remainder of…

But after years of prison, Joseph stayed true to his father and invited him and his family to live in Egypt with him. Nearing the end of his life, Jacob asked his son Joseph: “If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, they hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,” (Genesis 47:29), which Joseph sore to him to bury him with his fathers out of Egypt.
