The promise was that there would be a chosen generation birthed through Abraham. The Abrahamic covenant is the beginning of re-establishing God’s plan to redeem mankind back into a relationship with Him. In Genesis 12, God assured Abraham that he will be blessed, and have family beyond counting, and that nations will be blessed through him. “No wonder Paul speaks of the promise to Abraham and to his seed that he would be the inheritor of the world (Rom. 4:13). He would inherit more than the land of Canaan; he would inherit the world.” God seals the covenant between Him and Abraham by walking in between the sacrificed animals (Gen. 15:9-17).
