Register to read the introduction… The Bible scriptures encourage all of humanity to share in God's wealth and to help people in need. Especially in the New Testament, Lord Jesus was known for spending time with those on the fringes of society, always seeing potential for transformation where others could not. Luke 14:14 says, “Then Jesus said to his host.. When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Essentially, this means that any act of charity or generosity is valuable and when a person does good they should be content in knowing that they have done what God would've wanted them to do. While Islam teaches that there is nothing wrong with the possession of material wealth, Muslims do believe that too much wealth can lead to them forgetting their dependence on God. Therefore it is expected that those with money, support those who need it. This is represented by one of The Five Pillars of Islam, being Almsgiving. A person may also give as much as he or she pleases as a voluntary donation. It is believed that borrowing of money and goods leads to the expectation of repayment and giving back what was given to you. This is quite a contradicting view considering that we often give to the poor willingly, without expecting to be paid back.
