Kardaras uses Susan Moeller’s study to give the audience a better understanding of what hyper texting is, and this adds ethos and logos to his argument because he is backing it up with credible and logical research. Moeller conducted a study in which she gathered 200 students and took away all forms of social media for one day, and her results were as expected. The student’s feedback strongly suggested that they were addicted to social media and texting; one student commented that without the comfort of social media, they began to feel uneasy and alone. Also, Kardaras points out that people have a need for novelty and rewards, and when they experience these things, the body releases dopamine. Social media can give novelty and rewards to people, so it is easy to become addicted to texting and social media. Hyper texting can lead to a compulsive behavior which can spill over into other forms of life; research proves that teens that are addicted to texting are more likely to drink alcohol, use drugs, and have sex.
