Although sometimes anxiety becomes more of an issue, it gets in the way of people’s day to day lives and causes constant worrying or excessive fear. (National) There are 6 types of anxiety. (“Attacks”) The first is generalized anxiety, the most common type of anxiety among elderly folks. (“Facts”) Generalized anxiety is a disorder that brings constant fear into one’s life. That person may have anxiety for an entire day, maybe it was because of a fall that they had recently, or they may not even know why. The next type of anxiety is panic disorder. Multiple panic attacks can happen to one person in a day if they have panic disorder. Another thing that comes with panic disorder is agoraphobia which is a fear of not being able to get help in the case of an emergency such as a panic attack. OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. OCD isn’t just a disorder that causes someone to want all their books in alphabetical order or to throw away that empty gum box on the shelf at Walmart. Next is phobia, phobia is a fear of something that doesn’t really need to be feared such as spiders. That brings on the next point. Anxiety can cause people to do, or not do, odd things. It’s normal for someone to be afraid of heights, bugs, birds, or even clowns, but sometimes people with anxiety have more unusual fears. Some may go over a conversation in their head hundreds of times before speaking to another person. Others won’t cross high bridges in fear of the bridge collapsing. For many people with anxiety, they suffer from a very common form called social anxiety. Social Anxiety is the fifth form of anxiety and it causes people to have massive fears of being humiliated in front of large numbers of people, or to be seen in a negative way by any of their peers.
