In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, his character General Zaroff can be portrayed as many things; mature, experienced, schooled, and suave. Traits such as these define Zaroff to be a civilized person especially when he is polite, and retains a dignified social stance. Even though the game he created is built around hunting people, his personality is indeed a civilized one.

The well-mannered nature of Zaroff allowed Rainsford to get all the necessities and luxuries that he would want for a night. Zaroff wanted to make Rainsford comfortable and feel welcome, “you want clothes, food, rest. You shall have them.” Zaroff wanted to help Rainsford get back to his regular healthy self.
