George Smith Patton Jr. was born in San Gabriel, California on November 11, 1885 and got his education at Virginia Military Institute in 1904 and then graduated from U.S. Military Academy at West Point on June 11, 1909. ( "George Patton Biography.") He always knew he wanted to become a war hero. He grew up hearing the victories his ancestors’ have had in The Revolutionary and The Civil War. The Patton Family came to the new world in 1770 in Virginia, named Robert Patton he married the daughter of Hugh Mercer who fought in the revolutionary war against the British. His grandfather George Smith Patton the first was a solider in the civil war on the side of the confederate. He would be the first officer to be assigned to the first Tank Corps in World War 1, but won’t become the person that everyone knows in till World War 2. His first taste of battle would be in 1915 at Fort Bliss along the Mexican border. He showed great skill and when in World War 1. Tanks were very effective in the battle of Cambrai, and Patton saw this and studied it and became one of the leading in tank warfare. He established the American tank school in France, were he trained Americans to use the French tanks. One of his medals for his tank warfare was a Distinguished Service Medal for the battle of Meuse-Argonne and also was wounded
