Humility, integrity, empathy, courage, and perseverance are some of traits discussed in Chapter 1. Watching General McChrystal Ted Talk, I was able to link his experiences to some of the above traits.
The trait that stood out most on his talk was intellectual humility. Intellectual humility is “the ability to develop knowledge of the extent to one’s ignorance and to be aware of the limitations of one’s viewpoint”. General McChrystal was aware that on that September morning in which everything changed, his knowledge and believes of what a soldier was,

Intellectual perseverance is “the disposition to work one’s way through intellectual complexities despite frustrations inherent in the task”. Even though the operation failed General McChrystal rebuilt the confidence and faith of the solders as well as the commanders. Although, he did not mentioned if a second mission was completed successfully, because of his leadership one is able to envision a stronger team.
General McChrystals’ recollection of his experiences and interaction with others portrayed many of the traits discussed in the module. His ability to reason and understand the point of view of others as well as their thinking makes him a strong-sense critical thinker. From acknowledging that at his age there was much to learn, to realizing the differences in his team, McChrystal possessed many of the traits of a disciplined mind. His fairmindedness made him a great leader not only for his team but also for the country. The video showed me how the intellectual traits are used on a day to day basis. Having examples allows me to have a better grasp of the concepts and provided me with a guideline on how to use

I enjoyed the clip of Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal regarding how he would personally advise his “twenty year old self.” I believe that as a leader, as you gain knowledge and perspective, your core beliefs will remain intact along with your new vision. For example, General McChrystal still states that “There are a set of standards that you know are right” and that you shouldn’t deviate from those standards. This was his belief at twenty years of age and he still holds onto to that belief presently.…

Introduction Definitions of intelligence vary among scholars, theorists, and laypersons, due to its multidimensionality. However, intelligence typically involves an individual’s ability to learn from experience and adapt to the environment in which they live. I believe that the construct of intelligence should encompass an individual’s ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, to think logically, and to express creativity. Two intelligence tests in which I recently had the opportunity to take and score included the Shipley Institute of Living Scale-2 and the Wonderlic Personnel Test.…
