I want to start off this part of the assignment by saying I am sorry. I feel as if I did not do as well as I wished I did. Unlike the first child, I did not know this mother and the child personally, and before I went to the home, I was sick to my stomach become I was so very scared and nervous to meet the mother, especially because it was at her home, and I sort of felt as if I was intruding (though she was very pleasant, and kind). I really wanted to work with Denise again, and with another child since she has an endless amount of knowledge about children, and why they may be functioning the way they are. However, I understand that you did desire that I gain another parent’s perspective. Because I was so afraid and nervous (and I was afraid …show more content…
When I asked about them leaving the hospital, she stated that they went “straight home” afterwards. Unfortunately, Michelle did mention that Owen does experience “some bit of difficulty when he tries to go to the restroom”. During the time of observation, I could tell that the child was not happy, and was passing a lot of gas. I wanted to ask Michelle if Owen had Colic, but I forgot the term, and again for some reason I was just so nervous to ask in case I was wrong. To develop on my observation, and understanding of this child as mentioned above, it reminds me of the portion of the textbook, as it mentioned two highly contrasting birth experiences. One mother had a very successful birth, resulting in a happy and healthy experience (similar to Michelle and Owen), and unfortunately there are other births, were the entire experience is not as healthy, and easy as one might wish it could be (similar to Christopher) (Wittmer, Peterson, and Puckett, 2017) (M. Cardenas, personal interview, March 19, …show more content…
When I asked about Owen’s sight, and if he tracks (I used a finger as an example), he mentioned that “he was not there just yet” but she did add that “he will focus on a face if he does recognize it”, and after referring back to the textbook, this sort of behavior seems to be normal in terms of Owen needing to develop in his ability to “focus” on whatever he is looking at. I should have asked the mother to show it to me, but as I think about it now, she is the mother and she would know if her child could or could not track. I am not sure if it would have been rude, to have asked her to show me anyways, but for the sake of this assignment, I apologize for not asking. In terms of scent (I have trouble to determining exactly how to prove during an observation if a baby can smell something), I asked when Owen was fussy, if the scent of Michelle calms him down, and she said “yes, he knows his mama”. For hearing, Michelle, stated the “Owen does respond to her voice”, during this portion of the observation, she started to call Owen’s name, and talk to him, and Michelle responded in a positive way. Based off what I remember, Owen was fussy at time during the observation, and this

The readings for today’s lesson were chapters 3 and 4 from the book “Maternity Rolls” by Heather Kuttai. The chapters tell Kuttai’s journey through pregnancy and childbirth. From what Kuttai states, it seems as if pregnancy was a very difficult time for her, emotionally and physically. It was difficult emotionally because although Kuttai and her spouse were very excited to be pregnant, not everyone was equally excited for or supportive of them. Kuttai states “I saw the man ultrasounds as many opportunities to see the sex, but I was terribly disappointed when my ultrasound technician refused to pass this knowledge on to our doctor, and therefore on to us.…

This is all connected back to the holism theory which states that for most needs to be motivated and have some motivation to improve on and they also need to be arranged on a hierarchy.…
