General Electric is an industrial multinational conglomerate that provides a variety of products and services including aircraft engines, oil and gas production equipment, power generation, house hold appliances, medical imaging and much more. General Electric was founded in 1892. The founders of General Electric are Thomas Alva Edison and Charles Coffin. Edison and Coffin independently owned their own companies both working toward electric innovations. As competitors in working towards the same goal, they decided coming together as a team would be more efficient and profitable. On April 15, 1892 Edison Electric Company and Thomas-Houston Company merged to form General Electric. Combining these businesses the new company became a dominant …show more content…
The power and water industry is where the most profit is generated; products include turbines, generators, pumps and filters for treatment systems. The aviation industry provides engines for aircraft such as jets, helicopters, etc. The health care industry provides medical diagnostic equipment, drug manufacturing equipment, and other medical devices. The oil and gas industry supplies equipment to assist energy companies. The transportation industry supplies high horsepower diesel-electric locomotives to use in the mining companies. In 2015 the General Electric Company ranked number eight on the fortune 500 list also in 2015 the largest share holder, Daniel Heintzelman retired from his position holding 391,415 shares of GE common stock. Some of the largest stock holders are Jeffery R. Immelt, CEO of General Electric, John G. Rice Vice Chairman, Elizabeth J. Comstock Vice Chair, Jeffery S. Bornstein Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

As of 12-31-2015 the current assets for General Electric were 170, 827 billion dollars and their current liability was 148,682 billion dollars. This being stated means that they are a profitable organization with positive cash flow. The company ratio analysis of 1.15:1 which gives them a dividend yield of 3.23%. Their current share price as of today 2-15-17 is 30.24 dollars per share. The growth of general electric compared to the industry is on a long term equal rise.
