The general duty clause states that employers are responsible for ensuring their facility is free of known hazardous materials that can cause harm or even death to any employee (Bernardin & Russell, 2013). This means that employees should take all precautions to address and prevent anything that can cause an employee harm which would include making repairs to broken and hazardous things in the workplace and ensuring that employees receive properly training to prevent any harm or injury occurring. The general duty clause was created because employers needed to be hold accountable for the obvious hazard that could cause employees harm (Foulke & Beck, 1993).
