General MacArthur explains what his life was like as a solider and how happy he was be able to serve for this country. I can see that he was honored to be graduate from west point. He makes an approach to pathos by explains how the three words Duty, Honor, Country “dictates what you ought to be, what you can be and what you will be”. He wants the cadets to carry these word from the beginning of their journey to the end. These words of encouragement will help them become better solders. He also shows emotion by also saying “ coming from a profession that I have served so long and people I have loved so well, it fills me I with emotion I cannot express” This lets the audience know that he is very serious and passionate about his career.
