In June 1754 General Braddock, with George Washington as his aide, went with 1 400 red coated British soldiers and a small number of blue coated colonial soldiers to march to Fort Duquesne. Washington tried to tell General Braddock that their marching style was bad because they lined up in rows and columns which made them an easy target. On June 9, 1755 the french and native warriors were hiding behind trees when they ambushed the marching soldiers. In the great confusion the british and colonial soldiers were easy targets in their brightly colored coats.
