In my earlier years I was a big fan of Michael Jackson. The renown pop artist was first introduced to me by a magazine I had looked at in a corner store where I used to live. On the front cover was a picture of the famous king of pop wearing his signature outfit “Bad” which consisted of his leather jacket, pants, and boots. Its headline read “ 25 years of Being Bad”. I walked into his room with great fear and excitement. “Did I make it or did not?” This question ran through my head endlessly until the day I would find out if I got accepted to the biggest choir I would have auditioned for. The ACDA (American Choral Directors association) not many people made it in, but when my choral director was reading off the numbers I just couldn’t believe the numbers that where given to me where read off. When I arrived in South Dakotah there was a large group of young singers who shared the same passion to choral music as I did. I will forever remember my First ACDA choir rehearsal. All the music that we made was so beautiful and soothing that my hairs on the back of my neck where standing straight up, so much joy and comfort filled my body that tears where running down my face. Everyone there came to notice how much we all shared and loved the passion of music together and our bond as a choir could not be every broken. The last day when our concert was over, our choir director told us this. “Music can fix wars but also make them”. At first I didn’t know what he was implying but time can only bring the answer. It was bitter sweet leaving everyone at such a short time, but the experience will forever be in my knowledge and

Before I knew it, I was having my last performance. The awards were going to be announced, at the end of the concert and I thought that one of the other girls were going to receive the award. This was my perception because I thought that one of the other seniors had deserved more than I had. I thought that there had to have been another member of the color guard who had worked their butts of more than I did and deserved to be recognized for it. As I was contemplating on who would deserve the award, my attention was drawn to the performance area.…
