Gene Simmons: The Perfect Family

Decent Essays
First, I have to say its hilarious to see Gene Simmons in a question, about a perfect family. I think it would have been even funnier if the Beverly Hillbillies was included or compared to Gene Simmons. However, the Cosby Show or Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was more relatable in my upbring.

According, to society we were the burgesious or higher, when I was growing up. Therefore, shows depicting the perfect family were never tye reason for why our family unit survived and lived above povertylevels.

By the same token, coming together as one is what a family unit is suppose to do good or bad. The old saying , ' a family that prays together, stays together' is so very true.

Granted, the political platform continues to separate and divide

The family’s shown in 1950’s sitcoms like Father Knows Best are representations of the perfect nuclear family in a utopian society where the mother is shown to be the docile homemaker where as the father is the powerful breadwinner. There are few to no sitcoms where this is not the case. In ‘Pleasantville’, David longs for the stable, happy family in the sitcoms as his own is broken by divorce and his mother unhappiness, Ross uses pastiche to show David’s worship of the nuclear family. David admires the family’s simplicity; he believes that the family dynamics, that closely follow with traditional gender roles, makes for a better family. Though, after he protects Betty from the black and white harassers, his admiration for the utopian society shown in the sitcoms is questioned.…

Compare and Contrast Sitcom- Essay Throughout the decades we as viewers witnessed various family TV sitcoms evolve as generation’s change, with many managing to maintain several of the same family core values. I strongly feel that The Brady Bunch, which debuted in the 1960’s and Full House debuting in the 1990’s best illustrate a significant gap between two generations of families that share similarities amongst family values despite their difference in family structure and roles. Both sitcoms are based in a family home setting depicting common life obstacles, struggles as well as plenty of humor that the whole family can enjoy.…

In the book, The Way We Never Were: American Families and the Nostalgia Trap by Stephanie Coontz, the author deconstructs various types of stereotypes and myths embodied by television shows that romanticize family life and gender roles. Coontz (1992) states that these idealizations promote the “traditional family” myth which she describes as “an ahistorical amalgam of structures, values, and behaviors that never coexisted in time and place” (p.9). The notions derived from this myth are a compound of characteristics that resemble mid-nineteenth century and early 20th century paradigms concerning family life (Coontz, 1992, p.9). Coontz (1992) describes both components in detail in Chapter 1 describing the first as a mother-child oriented family…

The concept of "The Brady Bunch" started back in 1966 when Sherwood Schwartz (the creator and producer of the show) heard that somewhere between 20-30% of all families had at least one child from a previous marriage. The show was about a mother with three daughters by one marriage, marries a widower with three boys, a maid and a dog. The first season of The Brady Bunch focused on the newly blended family and the conflicts that arose from the merger. The family eventually learned to get a long as they knew more about each other. They all helped each other with their individual problems and went through their difficulties as a family.…

An Analysis of The Family and The Episode of Duck Dynasty Introduction A family, as defined in many ways, is the cell of the whole society. Analyzing a family is complicated and many theories are required. Being defined over the life course, “A family is an intergenerational social group organized and governed by social norms regarding descent, and affinity, reproduction and the nurturant socialization of the young” (White, 1991, p. 37). Researching a family is a very long process and should pay attention to the changing of time.…

Given the combination of several different factors, I don’t think Simmons should roll out the Great Game of Life (GGOL) program. I would suggest he wait to launch the GGOL until the economy showed signs of stabilization and the program proved to be definitely effective. In the year 2001 there were several different obstacles standing in the way of the implementation of the program. Firstly, the 9/11 attacks, recession and negative GDP growth contributed towards economic downturn.…

At a young age, I’ve always had this idea of what the Model family should look like. Father is working while Mother cleans the house and cooks three meals a day. Brother and sister helping with homework at the dinner table, while Max the dog is digging a hole to bury his new bone. Well to some that might sound really lame. I do sometimes wish I grew up in a different era where everyone had that kind of family.…

The purpose of this study is to examine how the media portrays parent-child communication about sex and the role that family structure plays in the communication between the parent and child. This area of study is important to examine as we know that the media can shape the perspectives of individuals, however it leaves us to question to what extent the media shapes conversations about sex within a family unit. We may often take for granted how our opinions are influenced by media and that we, as a society, might not acknowledge their full impact on family communication. Our hope in conducting this analysis of a television show is to discover how and why parent-child communication about sex occurs and how that relates to the family structure presented in a television show that has aired in the past 10 years. Given our limitation on time and resources, we used the Netflix database to find potential shows that could provide multiple examples of parent-child communication.…
