GamerGate, a term coined by Adam Baldwin, refers to a consumer movement/revolt against certain parts of games news sites; however, is widely known to be an online harassment movement/campaign. Like many forms of folktales, Fairy tales serve as enduring classics which ubiquitously permeate our culture. “Pans Labyrinth” or “El laberinto del fauno” by Guillermo Del Toro is a profound 2006 cinematic film which idiosyncratically serves as a spiritual successor to the traditional fairy tale genre. A dark and forebodingly twisted fantasy--- Pan’s labyrinth is set in a period of history when the fascist Franco regime was in power. The underlying patriarchal society, the prominent illustration of explored dualism between male rationality and female sensibility, the ambiguity amongst both a visionary fictional realm and the brutality of reality, all contribute to the beautiful esotericism of the narrative.…

Speaker, Anita Sarkeesian, in her video, Women As a Background Decoration, describes how women in video games are hyper-sexualized and most often recipients of violence. Sarkeesian’s purpose is to point out how women are portrayed as a “Non-Playable Sexual Object” and often degraded. She does an exemplary job at being effective in her argument by appealing to the three main rhetorical strategies and the specific language and style of her piece. Sarkeesian begins her video by firstly addressing that women are identified as objects in games and how this is affecting them in the real world. She challenges the listeners to think if objectifying women is morally acceptable and that they are more than “...decorative elements used to try and…

This shows that Video games franchises like ‘Tomb Raider’ are favorable by the male audiences due to the characters being so overly sexualized which grab their attention of these thirsty men. There are men out there that would spend their cash on games because ‘there 's a really hot chick in it’’. In the end sex does sell, most consumers would be attracted to video games with these sort of features. Compared to the female point of view of these unfair sexual representations, they would offer the same opinion as the male and prefer to choose something more sexier and feminine. Other video games without over sexualized female characters don’t gain much popularity compared to games with sexbomb characters like ‘Tomb Raider’ , ’Metroid’, or ‘final fantasy’.…
