The gender-neutral initiative I would like to see is the implementation of in-depth education for health care workers. I believe that transgender people have needs that should be taken into consideration when implementing care. A limited amount of information is available to appropriately deal with many unique clinical issues such as hormone replacement interaction with other drugs and or social issues that may arise, and out of embarrassment from the patient to provide detail facts, and the caregiver not wanting to use words or statements to violate the patient’s rights may cause a delay in care or treatment.
