Inhumans Character Analysis

In Marvels newest television show, Inhumans, There is a group of people that have are the same as humans but are genetically wired to have certain powers. This population of Inhumans lived on earth but started to live on the moon under a dome in a city named Attilan because of the humans growing curiosity of regular humans. The people of Attilan are stuck in a caste system that isn’t lenient which angers some of the people of Attilan. The main characters who are a part of the royal family are Black Bolt who is the king, Medusa who is the queen, Gorgon, Karnak, Maximus who is black bolt’s brother, and Crystal who is medusas younger sister. Gender stratification is gender division in any way, shape, or form. A great example of this is when Medusa finally finds out that even though she was queen, she was completely kept in the dark about some of Black Bolts plans. This shows gender stratification by seeing how even though she had a high achieved status as queen, her gender still was the factor that led her to being kept in the dark. Another concept is Social mobility. Social mobility is the movement of individuals or groups from one level in a stratification system to another. When looking at the basis of the whole story, it is based on how there is no social mobility. Maximus talks about how people are suffering in the coal mines because of the caste system which provides no life chances for people in the lower caste. This is a direct correlation between life chances and mobility, if there isn’t any life chances, there is a slim chance that social mobility will occur. One other concept that was viewed was social status. Social status is a socially defined position in a group or society socially defined position in a group or society characterized by certain expectations, rights, and duties. There is ascribed status and a achieved status. Ascribed status is a status that you get at birth as in the status of a brother. This means through interaction with others, individuals learn the values, attitudes, techniques, and motives for criminal behavior. During the coup de etat, many people weren’t with rebelling but when they saw that everyone else was doing it they were convinced. The interaction with those in the coup de etat and those that were not influenced the people who weren’t with the coup de etat to get with the program. This is a great example of differential association theory because it shows how people do something because their friends are doing it. Social norms are activities or actions that are normal in everyday life. An example of social norms being broken in Marvels Inhumans is when Black Bolt gets teleported to earth and violated many social norms. He would resist arrest and wear a suit out of a boutique. These are both violations of social norms because there are laws against these acts. Therefore, since everyone abides by these laws, they are qualified to be social norms. A concept that I found interesting throughout the series is family. Family is the relationships in which people live together with commitment, form an economic unit and care for any young, and consider their identity to be significantly attached to the group.
